Our stories of rescue, perseverance, hope, and love.
Whether it's a behaviour issue or a medical need - WE NEVER GIVE UP ON A DOG.
River came to us from a remote reserve after she was hit by a car and couldn't walk. After 4 1/2 hours of surgery we are happy to say she is doing great! The lower half of her right leg had 3 breaks in it and they ended up wrapping it with a wire and using a pin to realign 2 bones down her leg, They used a stabilizer plate on the bone then realigned her pelvis bone and put screws in there. Dr. Smith said it looks great and all the tools they used to fix her will just stay inside of her. She will be on straight bed rest for the next 3 weeks to let things heal. After that she will slowly start walking. When 6 weeks are up she will go back for more xrays to make sure everything has healed and to say her goodbyes to the amazing staff. We are so glad everything worked out for this girl and she will have all 4 legs in life.
The most amazing part of this whole thing that really gets to our hearts is that Dr. Smith thanked us for helping this dog and giving her a good chance at life now. Not used to vets thanking us for what we do! That really meant a lot! This girl is so lucky and we're sure the person who adopts her down the road will also be another lucky person.
Thank you to everyone that has helped by the kind words, the awesome prayers, and the donations that came in to help her. Big huge thank you to the staff at Zimmys Oil Gard for their large donation to help River through this! Everyone is so amazing and we really appreciate the help and support! We couldn't do this without all you amazing people! Below is her new x-ray with all the work done to her.
Meet Kane! Kane came to us from drive in reserve after he had been hit by a car and could barely walk. His amazing foster family has shown him so much love and his spirts are lifted just in time for Christmas. He is on pain meds that are helping him and will have his surgery soon. This 8 year old boy has a new life already!
This girl came into our care in the summer of 2021. She was just a pup, about 4 to 5 months old, when she was hit by a car and her leg was smashed. Dr. Mat at Crossroads Vet Clinic operated on her and removed her leg. Within hours she was standing! What a trouper! It is amazing the pain tolerance in these northern dogs. She is now on the road to recovery. Big thanks to Crossroads for all that you did to help her. Lady is going to have the best life ever now.
Paws was told of a dog at a reserve who had heart worm and that the owner had decided to surrender him because she couldn't keep him anymore. We brought Cash to TBay, found a foster home for him, and with the help of Crossroads Vet Clinic, have provided him with heartworm medication. This is a very costly venture - which Paws will cover - and his new owners will have to be very diligent in keeping Cash calm and at ease so no complications occur. We're hoping everything goes well but we're happy that Cash has a future and is in good hands to make it happen. Now isn't that a feel good story? Yip Yip.
