Congratulations Tyrone the wonder dog! Tyrone is now registered as "Tyrone Harold Finnigan TD -Tracking dog" with the Canadian Kennel Club. Tyrone was adopted through Paws for Love just over a year ago and went through some hard training with his owner, Jess, and has shown the world how smart a rescue dog can be. Jess explains the whole process:
"The tracking Tyrone and I do involves finding and following a human scent trail (also referred to as a track.) We don’t discriminate between humans like you might see in the movies where a dog is presented a t-shirt and told to find the human that wore it, instead we find the freshest human scent and follow it. The TD – tracking dog – title is the first step of many in that field with the Canadian Kennel Club. Testing is done by having a track layer walk a predetermined route and leave an article at the end. An article is something that’s left for the dog to find, like a glove or hat. Tracks are made 30 minutes to 2 hours before the dog and handler arrive. For our TD title we completed a track that was approximately 430 m long, including 4 turns and a leather glove at the end. The track was made about an hour beforehand. Neither dog nor handler sees the track being made. As a handler, I need to be careful not to direct Tyrone at all during the test. It’s completely up to his nose and training. He calls the shots. When he finds the article, he needs to indicate his find with a trained response. In his case, he lies down with the article between his front legs and barks at me.
"Each competitor has a similar track to follow and titles are awarded on a pass/fail basis – teams are competing with themselves, rather than each
other.
"Tyrone is a gem. He's learning so much and so fast! We participated in a tracking class and he blew the instructor's mind. We have been doing some tracking at home so he has a basic understanding, but the things he learned and immediately applied were astounding. Plus he's learned how to behave on paddleboards and is learning his mushing commands by running beside me on a bike. He visits my colleagues at the office and has been in as many dog friendly stores as possible and on all occasions he's had great manners and been very friendly. At home he was a breeze to crate and house train. He's a fantastic representative of his "breed" and such a delight to have in our lives. Many thanks to the volunteers at Paws for Love that gave him an amazing start."
We are so proud of you Tyrone! You are amazing and we love you! Hugs to you and Jess!
We just want to let you know that Everest has become a very spoiled and very loved special part of our family.
We drove from Ayr, Ontario to Thunder Bay and could not have made a better choice. You guys are amazing with what you do!!
She is such a sweet cuddler, such a goofball and honestly a perfect addition to our family. She is such a bird dog haha loves just sitting and watching them. She also loves the outdoors which is perfect because we spend alot of time together on walks and exploring Ontario!
We just got her spayed last Thursday and we didn't think she could cuddle anymore but she has found a way to be on top of us the whole time♡
My kids love her and she absolutely adores them, she gets the "zoomies" and runs around like a maniac which is the cutest and funniest thing ever.
We just really want to thank you for saving her and bringing her into our lives!!

Hey! We really wanna thank you guys! I always wanted to adopt a rescue dog. We adopted our baby from you guys in August 2021. His name was Max but he’s called Mauzer now. The Best Furbaby You can Ever Ask For! We drove from Hamilton, Ontario to Thunder Bay and it's all worth it and having Mauzer with us! He’s so spoiled already! Such a smart baby! You guys do amazing work by saving these babies and finding them a perfect home! (See photos below)
We were looking to add a fur man to our family and found your site quite by accident, then fell in love with this white ball of fluff and put in the application. After going through the proper steps, we were selected to be Sully (now Jared's) new family.
The drive from Cambridge to Thunder Bay is approx. 17hrs. After hitting some pretty nasty weather - our car spun a few times - transport trucks were even swerving - it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. We stayed overnight and then picked up our newest addition! It took approximately 21 hours to drive back home with numerous stops for human and fur man. It only took maybe an hour for Jared to settle in to his new home and now we can't imagine life without him!

Tyrone is a gem. He's learning so much, so fast. We participated in an advanced tracking workshop and he blew the instructor's mind - we have been doing some tracking at home so he has a basic understanding, but the things he learned and immediately applied were astounding. Plus he's learned how to behave on paddleboards and is learning his mushing commands by running beside me on a bike. He visits my colleagues at the office and has been in as many dog friendly stores as we can find - and on all occasions he's had great manners and been very friendly. At home he was a breeze to crate train and house train. He's a fantastic representative for his "breed" and such a delight to have in our lives. Many thanks to the volunteers at P4L that gave him an amazing start.
We just wanted to share our gratitude and appreciation we have for your organization. Myself and my spouse, Melanie, adopted a puppy (we named Shelby) from your rescue over the weekend. We picked her up from the foster, Rachel, on Saturday and we can't express enough how thankful we are that Rachel was the foster. Rachel was in constant communication with Melanie over the weeks, sending updates and pictures of Shelby and her daily adventures. When we met with Rachel she was well organized and treated us like family. She told us that Shelby has been introduced to car rides, that potty training is going extremely well and Shelby is a great cuddler. Melanie and I can't wait to give Shelby a great life and with your organization and Rachel you have given her a great start!
Thank you and all the best :)

My husband Wayne and I adopted Finn, two weeks ago. He is loving and smart and we love him. As he was 6 months old when we adopted him we have learned to listen to each others wants and needs. As Finn had little to no training when we received him we have been busy teaching him new commands and working on house training. For now he sleeps in a large cage at night but during the day he has free range of the house. He loves to go for walks and we found the local tennis courts are easy to close off so he can run free chasing his ball and frizby. This is necessary for his safety as he is still ruled by his nose and not by his ears ie come. He has lost a lot of hair and has put on a bit of weight. The hair growing in is a light beige colour where before he was white. He is very special to us and is definitely our forever companion. Thank you Paws For Love Dog Rescue Thunder Bay and thank you Rebecca for fostering him.
Hi there! We adopted a puppy, "Bernie" from Paws for Love in April who is now 5 months old and named Rozzy. We just wanted to let you know that she is the light of our lives and we could not be happier with her. She brings joy to our family like we could never have imagined, is the calmest, sweetest, and most affectionate pup. She is having the best summer at camp and enjoys boat rides, kayaks, bikes and even going for floats on the lake. She loves her kitty sister, Luna and her human siblings so much. Our experience with Paws for Love has been amazing and we are still in touch with our foster family who raised Roz as a pup.
Little man is more amazing than we thought he could ever be. Tonight our hearts are full. Gus was definitely meant for us. His foster mom has done a beautiful job and we are so grateful. And praise to Paws for Love Dog Rescue in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Finding good homes for pets in need and not for profit. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped us on our journey!

We are from Southwestern Ontario, but wanted to make the drive for our beautiful rescue boy. We drove 32 hours round trip over the course of a weekend to pick up our new family member. We met with our puppy's foster mom, Robin Untinen and brought home our little Chandler. We have nothing but amazing things to say about the experience, and of Robin. The process was easy and straight forward, everyone was great at each step.
Our puppy, at 8 weeks was already paper trained (for the most part), knew how to walk on leash, and is the best little puppy for our 5-year-old.
I really credit Robin for all her efforts during the time she was fostering; without her special touch and care, he wouldn't be as amazing as he is.
You have some great people, and amazing dogs.
Please keep doing what you're doing
We are very in love with Chandler Bing, our new little furbaby.
thanks again for picking us for his forever home.
With lots of gratitude,
-Michelle, Jamie and Callie (Pietras/Alain Family)

Hi! My name is Kyler and I adopted a puppy from Paws for Love. I asked my mom for a puppy for a long time, especially to keep me company during the pandemic we are in. She finally agreed and we filled out an application and were lucky enough that a supply teacher who had been to my school was fostering them. My mom says this made her feel more comfortable, knowing Mrs. White knew so much about animals. We went for a visit and fell in love with a pup named Riddles. We went home that night and discussed it as a family and all agreed we wanted to adopt her. On February 19th we picked her up and brought her home with us furever! Her new name is Nora. Some things she provides me with is keeping me active and motivating me to go outside. We bring her on walks through the fields to our neighbours and she gets to play with her fur friends Koda and Kitty. She is a pretty smart dog just like her Momma Truck. She has already learned how to sit, take a treat nice, shake a paw and to stay. We are so lucky to have Nora and are so grateful to Mrs. White and everyone at Paws for Love for giving us this opportunity to adopt Nora!
